Ideally situated on The Ancient Road – Hærvejen and EuroVelo 3 – and in the middle of Denmark – the City of Viborg is the ideal place to hold the WPCC.
This vibrant and modern city has a unique Danish history dating back more than 1,000 years, and today important parts of the city’s new history is formed on two wheels.
3 of Denmark’s 11 national cycling routes meet in Viborg and Viborg is engaged in a big effort to move as much transport, commuting and free time as possible onto bikes.
Viborg is one of Denmark’s oldest settlements and cities, owing its place in the geography to the Ice Age that shaped the impressive landscape and also formed the ridge that is the base for Hærvejen.

The Ancient Road – Hærvejen – literally meaning “the army road” – is a piece of Danish history, formed by a glacier during the last Ice Age, that winds its way over 450 km up through the Jutland peninsula. As the main artery connecting Scandinavia to Europe and as a central trade route, Hærvejen has bound people together across geography for thousands of years. Based on this unique history, the 15 municipalities along the route are developing this historical landmark into a modern recreational infrastructure – creating value for the citizens and local communities, as well as attracting more visitors.

Today, Viborg is one of Denmark’s largest municipalities and home to almost 100.000 people. Culture, tourism and trade are important factors in Viborg, along with the creative environment around The Animation Workshop, that is one of the main reasons for Viborg’s designation as one of only 22 UNESCO Creative Cities worldwide in the field of Media Arts in 2019.
